Kauai Community Health Alliance has on its professional staff physicians specializing in family practice and emergency medicine, urology, and physical medicine & rehab, a physician assistant, a clinical nurse practitioner, several licensed clinical social workers, a licensed massage therapist and a full time physical therapist. Our office staff provides health education, assistance in getting health insurance, medications, scheduling doctor appointments and routine health maintenance.

Healthcare Providers

Steve RogoffSteve Rogoff, MD brings to the Hale Lea clinic the latest advances in modern medicine along with an abundance of enthusiasm. Raised in Los Angeles, he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with honors from the University of California Berkeley. He completed his residency through UC San Francisco and was board certified in Family Practice medicine, with additional post-graduate training in pediatrics. He moved to Hawaii in 2002 where he practices traditional family medicine, emergency medicine, and anti-aging and functional medicine. As well as being a dedicated physician, Dr. Rogoff enjoys surfing, music, traveling through such places as India, Nepal, Central and South America, and writing. His first novel, Nazca, can be found at xlibris.com. His collection fo short stories, Colors and Shadows is also soon to be available.. He lives on Kauai with his wife Tracey and their son Sawyer.

Jim WinklerJames Winkler, PA-C has practiced medicine in Hawaii for 20 years. Winkler graduated class president from the USC School of Medicine Primary Care PA Program in 1984. Teaching appointments include Pacific College, and at the Fort Collins Family Medicine Residency Program. Professional memberships include the New York Academy of Sciences, and the Greater Los Angeles Nutrition Council. Winkler has been a published medical newspaper columnist for many years. He is also the founding director of a non-profit humanitarian organization, the Amicus Foundation, which sponsors projects in medicine, education, women's needs and cultural preservation. Also a professional musician Winkler has worked with Charles Mingus, Gabor Zabo, Benny Powell, Johnny Guitar Watson, Alex Acuna (Weather Report), Bill Kreutzmann (Grateful Dead), Donald Fagen (Steely Dan), Todd Rundgren, and many others. He presently resides in Hawaii with his wife and artist Dorianne (www.DorianneArt.com).

Larry RaithausLarry Raithaus, MD brings to Hale Lea clinic his expertise as a board certified urologist. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Raithaus was board certified in family practice in 1979. He completed his urology residency at Kaiser Hospital in Los Angeles and subsequently became board certified in urology in 1983. Dr. Raithaus has been a fellow of the American College of Surgeons since 1985. As Kauai’s only resident urologist from 1990 to 2000, Dr. Raithaus has been responsible for the introduction of many urological practice innovations. He performed the first laser treatments for BPH in the state of Hawaii. In addition to his urological practice, Dr. Raithaus has conducted research on the use of Shark Liver Extract for the treatment of cancer. He brings over 26 years of experience in urological practice to Hale Lea’s North Shore clinic, and enjoys a strong rapport with his patients.

Gilbert HagerGilbert Hager, MD is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. His expertise is in all forms of work and non-work related injuries, as well as chronic pain, musculoskeletal disorders, and physical disabilities. Dr. Hager has been in private practice in Hawaii since 1991. He was Medical Director of Brain Injury Program Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific 11/96 to 1/98, and Medical Director of Physical Medicine and Rehab, Castle Medical Center, Hawaii 8/92 to 8/96. Hager is a member of the Hawaii Society of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Association of Academic Physiatrists, the American Back Society, the American Board of Forensic Examiners, and the American Academy of Pain Management. Dr. Hager brings to Kauai the highest quality of medical care, along with an abundance of warmth and personality. In his spare time Dr. Hager is also a musician. You can find his CD on ragwagon.com.

Todd Strong, PTTodd Strong, PT was born in Charleston, South Carolina and majored in exercise science. He then attended the Medical University of South Carolina earning a masters degree in physical therapy. Todd worked at Wilcox hospital for many years before becoming chief therapist at Hale Lea's North Shore Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine. Todd loves the ocean, and when he isn't providing physical therapy for patients he is usually surfing. diving and paddling. His goal is to create a world class physical therapy clinic to bring out the best in all of us through rehabilitation and exercise.
